Si presenta giallo paglierino completamente limpida un lieve cappello di schiuma bianca di grana finissima. Al naso profumi di impasti fermentati non ancora infornati escono anche le sensazioni acide fruttate (frutta a pasta gialla). Alla bevuta si confermano le note acide, più lattiche che altro, frutta acerba e lieviti non cotti.
Corpo esile, buona frizzantezza con un finale secco. Una Berliner molto equilibrata, senza strafare e con i suoi 3,2° fa sì che questa possa essere un perfetto aperitivo.
Stile storico del nord della Germania, fu definito, in senso dispregiativo, dalle truppe napoleoniche lo champagne del Nord.
